The report that never gets built
The numbers that would tell you what’s working — which service actually makes money, which month the bookings dipped, whether this quarter beat the last one — already exist. They’re sitting in your accounting software, your booking calendar, a payments export, and three spreadsheets nobody opens.
The report never gets built because building it is a Sunday-night job. So the week’s decisions get made on gut feel, plus whichever number happened to be visible when you decided.
The old fix was a data team
Until recently, the fix was people. Big companies hired analysts whose entire job was reading the numbers and saying what they mean — and what those companies were really buying was reading time.
A small firm can’t hire that person. It no longer needs to.
What AI changes

That collapses the cost of the question. When asking costs nothing, you ask more often — and a business whose owner checks the numbers weekly runs differently from one whose owner sees them at tax time.
AI can misread a column, mangle a total, and state the wrong number with complete confidence — especially on large or messy data. Before you act on anything that matters, check one or two key figures against the source system. You keep the judgment; AI does the arithmetic and the first draft of the story.
