Choose your Claude plan
Claude Code needs a paid Claude plan — the free one doesn’t include it. Here’s how to choose in 60 seconds.
For building your own tools, Claude Pro at $20/month is the right choice — it has everything you need. You can cancel any time, and you really only need it during the weeks you’re building.

claude.aiand create an account (use an email you’ll keep). - Go to Upgrade / Plans and choose Pro.
- Add your payment details. Done — your account can now run Claude Code.
There’s a bigger “Max” plan ($100–200/mo) but it’s only worth it if you end up building for hours every day — you can upgrade in one click later if you ever need to. Skip the “API” option; that’s for developers.
On Pro, a long build session can occasionally hit a “limit reached” message mid-build — don’t worry. Every file Claude has written is already saved on your computer, so the half-built tool is safe on disk. Take a short break, come back a bit later (the limit resets on a rolling window), and Claude picks up right where it left off. Nothing is lost.
