You're a builder now

You started this course never having opened a terminal. You’re ending it with three working tools you built yourself. Here’s how to keep them healthy — and a few honest words before you go.

Three habits that keep your tools healthy

Tools need almost no upkeep, but three small habits keep them solid for years.

1. Snapshot after every change that works. Tell Claude “save a snapshot with git” the moment something works the way you want. It’s your undo button — free, instant, and there when an experiment goes sideways.
2. Push to private GitHub about once a week. End a session with “snapshot and push to GitHub.” Your laptop can die; your tools won’t. Keep every repository private — these hold your business’s details.
3. Every few months, ask for a checkup. Open the folder and say: “Review this project — anything broken, outdated, or worth improving?” Claude reads the whole thing and tells you. Fix what matters, ignore the rest.

When I started building my own tools, the thing that surprised me wasn’t how much time it saved — it was the feeling. Nobody could raise my price, sunset a feature I relied on, or lock my own data behind a paywall. The tools were mine. The skill was mine.
